It is a good idea to start a training, workshop, retrospective and other agile team events with some less serious activity, which allows the participants to switch off from their previous tasks, boost both their energy level and their mood, help them to get closer to each other and, well, “break the ice”.
Besides this, many icebreakers let us know other people better and open up ourselves a little bit, to the extent that is comfortable for us. We work better as a team when we like the people we work with. For this, we need to get to know them and help others get to know us by offering a bit of our personality along with our professionalism. Regularly incorporating activities that reveal our personalities into our work life contributes little by little to the process of getting to know each other and increasing trust in our teams.
Here, you can find my favorite icebreakers for Agile teams.
